Please Be Kind

About Please Be Kind

I’m just a girl who loves her dog. A dog who’s part Pit bull.

At 36 years old, this is the first time in my life I have really come to know the definition of discrimination. Nevermind the fact that my dog, Finn, is the cutest and sweetest thing on the planet, many can’t look past his breed. Or really, it’s just his eyes — they’re a tell tale sign of Pits. But the rest of him isn’t Pit-like at all — a boxer body, a hound nose. And he’s such a loverboy. Can’t bribe this dog with treats. Only kisses work! That’s Finn for you.

I’m starting this blog as a way to give updates on Finn, but also to vent my frustrations at getting discriminated against regularly when I’m with Finn in public. I need to get these incidents off my chest, not only to make myself feel better but to hopefully connect with other owners of pit mixes to commisserate. This is becoming quite a passion of mine — I want to do whatever I can to educate other dog owners out there that Pits are dogs too, and crave love just as much, if not more, than any other dog. At this point it’s a cliche, but it’s true: dogs aren’t vicious; dog owners are. And you’ll see why in this blog.

On behalf of Finn and me, thank you for reading our stories.      Finn and Nicole hugging
